April A. Hancock

I often get asked why I chose to be a lawyer, especially since my undergraduate degree was in theatre.  The answer is that every day I am always learning and challenging myself. Each day I continue my evolution as an insurance defense litigation attorney.

I am a duly licensed attorney actively practicing in Southern California and all throughout Arizona.  My practice focuses on automobile negligence, premises liability, commercial trucking, homeowner’s liability, construction defect, insurance coverage, insurance bad faith, appeals, lien issues, distributions, and minor settlements.

Throughout my career I have successfully resolved numerous cases either by settlement or motion work in both California and Arizona.  When cases cannot be resolved by either settlement or motions, they typically proceed through either the arbitration process or trial.  I have had the opportunity to be first chair on several trials throughout Arizona with each one providing a rewarding learning experience I apply moving forward.

Outside of trials, I enjoy speaking at conferences.  I have spoken at an insurance webinar regarding the collateral source rule and the slow evolution of the rule throughout the United States.  I also spoke on a panel at the Combined Claims Conference called Bling, Kicks & Threads: Wearable Technology and its Use in Personal Injury Litigation.  I am working to evolve the topic into its correlation with the construction industry.

When not in the office or racking-up my frequent flyer miles, I am with my husband starting our new family.  Our adventures in renovating a house have increased my ever-growing knowledge of construction and my appreciation for contractors. With the renovation came a custom kitchen to facilitate my love of cooking, baking and of course, eating. Otherwise, you will likely find me on campus at Arizona State University as we are season ticket holders for football, women’s basketball, and men’s basketball, while also attending other events.
